The Families, Adolescents, and Schools Thriving in Everyday Living (FASTEN) study represents a partnership between the PRC, Hillman Family Foundations, and school districts in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Our goal — in surveying high school students — is to assess community, school, family, peer, and individual factors that account for adolescent mental health, well-being, and substance use risk. Reports based upon the survey data will be a valuable tool for schools to identify areas of strength and concern in their school communities, to guide their resources and efforts toward supporting student success. In addition, this information may help schools gain eligibility for state-funded prevention programs if needs are identified.
