Presentation Abstract:

In this talk I will provide a conceptual model for understanding the intersection between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and intimate relationship functioning and discuss new directions in the study and treatment of PTSD within a couple context. Discussion will focus on new knowledge gleaned by situating couples with PTSD within a broader family developmental context and the application of state-of-the art methods for studying within person variability and coupled systems on short time scales as a novel strategy for understanding the recursive process by which PTSD and family dysfunction are maintained over time. Implications for prevention and intervention will be discussed.
