Dr. Bethell will present findings from a four-year national effort to address childhood adversity and promote child well being in children’s health services and communities. The resulting “We Are the Medicine” agenda seeks to advance a new 5th wave, integrative public health model that weaves together streams of human development, neurobiological, social sciences and mind-body research related to preventing and addressing childhood adversity to promote positive health and well being. With a focus on the relevance to and implications for children’s health services research and policy, Dr. Bethell will emphasize the central role of building norms for self-reflection, growth mindsets and the “will to be well” among children, families and communities and the proactive cultivation of safe, stable, nurturing relationships and personal engagement and mindfulness as a matter of public health.
