In the face of ongoing labor shortages, the hospitality industry (and many other industries) must explore innovative solutions to build a diverse and sustainable workforce. This talk will focus on the untapped potential of neurodiverse individuals and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), highlighting the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating these groups into the hospitality workforce.
Drawing on several recent studies, Dr. Jolly will explore how biases and misconceptions about neurodiversity impact hiring decisions and how neurodivergent individuals and those who support them can navigate these barriers through strategic self-disclosure. He will also share experiences of individuals with IDD, offering insights from job coaches who serve as critical intermediaries between employees and employers.
The discussion will emphasize inclusive hiring practices, practical strategies for supporting neurodiverse and IDD employees, and the broader benefits of a more inclusive and diverse workforce in the hospitality sector.
