Race is a central part of American life and impacts every aspect of how each person in this country navigates the world around them. Even children and youth develop a keen awareness of what society expects of them because of their Race. Yet, our research has not fully explored the varied ways in which Race impacts the development of youth. This talk will propose a path for advancing Race scholarship to better understand the development of racially marginalized youth. This discussion will highlight 1) theoretical frameworks, 2) methodological approaches, and 3) dissemination opportunities that could potentially advance our understanding of Race in the lives of racially marginalized youth.

About the Speaker

My work is committed to the protection of the souls of Black youth. I work with communities to understand how the racial identities of Black youth are shaped and seek to understand how recreation can be leveraged to positively impact this process.
