The Inaugural P-TRAN Symposium, which in 2017 will focus on Biobehavioral Health Foundations, will bring together an interdisciplinary network of Penn State researchers working across the lifespan on developmental, mental health, substance use and abuse, and adversity issues. Sessions will focus on these four areas, and a poster session will offer another opportunity for researchers, including pre- and post-doctoral students, to share and talk about their current work.
Our objective is to offer those who are considering or would like to learn more about ways to include a translational neuroscience component, the opportunity to hear from those who are currently doing just that. Attendees will learn about current research programs that tackle key themes in biobehavioral health. Importantly, this symposium offers attendees time to network with colleagues from across the University with whom they might not otherwise interact, but who could be productive collaborators.
To encourage networking, part of the meeting will be spent on collaborative conversations in breakout sessions, so that participants may discuss ways in which individual research programs might intersect on novel projects that include translational neuroscience components. By enabling these connections, we hope to lay the foundation for collaborative teams working at the cutting-edge of important biobehavioral areas. To facilitate innovative collaborators, project ideas generated by new groups formed through this meeting will have the opportunity to apply for targeted pilot funding that will support potential and current translational neuroscience research.
