Part of the Department of Biobehavioral Health Fall 2019 Colloquium Series

Dr. Gretchen Birbeck’s work focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of common neurologic disorders in sub Saharan Africa so that feasible, affordable, evidence-based interventions aimed at preventing or ameliorating neurologic illness/injury can be evaluated and, if warranted, broadly implemented.

For her outstanding work, Dr.Birbeck has been named Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Neurologic Association, and the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene. She is also recognized as a U.S. Paul Rogers Society Ambassador for Global Health Research, an Ambassador for Epilepsy by the International League Against Epilepsy, and was recently named a 2019 recipient of the Johns Hopkins Global Achievement Awards.
