In the area of psychoneuroimmunology, Dr. Fagundes’ research focuses on the use of theories and methods from clinical, social, and developmental health psychology to examine how stress “gets under the skin” to impact diseases of older adulthood such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and cognitive decline. The goal of his current work is to investigate how attachment style impacts responses to major stressful life experiences (i.e., bereavement, care giving, and a cancer diagnosis and its treatment). Dr. Fagundes has received early career awards from several organizations including: American Psychological Association, Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research, Psychoneuroimmunology Research Society, Association for Psychological Science.
