In this talk, Dr. Fishbein will outline and describe the genesis, framework, and goals
of P-TRAN (Program for Translational Research on Adversity and Neurodevelopment) as a potential prototype for the future conceptualization and planning for prevention science research, practice, and outreach at Penn State. The program of research to date has focused on environmental influences on neurodevelopmental trajectories that influence behavioral outcomes, as well as mechanisms underlying intervention effects. She will also describe how she plans to engage the Bennett Pierce PRC community in a process of discovery and exploration of new opportunities in neuroscience, implementation science, and policy reform. This approach involves mapping Penn State’s prevention-related capabilities, projects, and collaborations with funder trends and societal and policy needs. Directions for new transdisciplinary “team science” initiatives across Penn State and with our partners and funding agencies will be based on our common goals, interests, and complementary skill sets. Formalized mechanisms will be established to facilitate cross-department/division/college- and school-wide collaborations, serving to translate scientific findings and services for use in real-world practical settings, such as communities, schools, clinics, and so forth.
