Dr. Feinberg collaborated with Norma Perez-Brena, Associate Director of the School of Consumer and Family Sciences at Texas State University, to adapt the Family Foundations curriculum for Latinx pregnant and parenting adolescents. Dr. Perez-Brena led a pilot trial of the adapted program in several high schools in the Austin, TX area.
Family Foundations helps pregnant couples and new parents prepare for the physical and emotional challenges of parenthood by building a strong team approach to positive parenting. Several studies funded by the National Institutes of Health have demonstrated the long-term benefits for both parents and children.
Funding for this project was provided by the Department of Health and Human Services-Administration of Children and Families (United States of America) Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood grant 90FM0067-02-00 (PI: Norma Perez-Brena, CO-PI: Michelle Toews) with approval by the Texas State University IRB (2014T2817).
