Linda Caldwell conducts research on interventions that develop youth competencies, promote healthy lifestyles, and reduce risky behavior through leisure. Linda initially started working in prevention research because she has always had an interest in helping people be healthy from a whole person perspective.
Linda has incorporated her love for traveling in her research—most recently, she was named a guest professor at the University of Iceland and an extraordinary professor at both the University of the Western Cape and North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus. Linda‘s key projects include TimeWise: Taking Charge of Leisure Time and HealthWise South Africa: Life Skills for Young Adults. In the future, Linda hopes to better understand the school dropout rates in South Africa through continued research with her colleagues.
Over the past 20 years as a prevention scientist, Linda has authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles that have appeared in Prevention Science and International Journal of Drug Policy, among others. Linda’s favorite aspect of the PRC is the people and opportunities that present themselves through her work. Linda received her Ph.D. in recreation from the University of Maryland in 1986. In her free time, Linda enjoys photography, scuba diving, and gardening.
