Kathleen Black (formerly Meeks) is a graduate student interested in how the development of biological reward circuitry across childhood contributes to risk for psychopathology during adolescence and emerging adulthood. She is especially interested in identifying neural predictors of early substance use, substance use disorder, and major depressive disorder. Kathleen currently investigates these questions using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data and longitudinal time-series methods grounded in structural equation modeling. She is pursuing a dual-title PhD in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) and Social and Behavioral Neuroscience (SBN).
As an undergraduate at the University of Rochester, Kathleen double majored in Biology and Music and minored in Clinical Psychology. She completed her master’s degree in Neuroscience at Penn State in 2023.

The Prevention and Methodology Training (PAMT) program, funded by a T32 grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, trains predoctoral and postdoctoral researchers in the integration of prevention science and statistical methodology for the behavioral sciences.
