Kantahyanee Murray, senior associate director of the Michigan Public Health Institute Center for Culturally Responsive Engagement, discussed the need for researchers to repair the wounds of past research on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities during the PRC’s 3rd Annual Lecture on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Prevention Science and Practice.
The lecture, titled ‘The Healing Power of Research in Service to Equity,’ focused on the histories of harm and the patterns that persist today. She said that racial healing requires the recognition of the need to acknowledge the wrongs of the past while addressing the consequences of those wrongs. She added that doing so will also help to improve research practice and outcomes.
