UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Mark T. Greenberg, Edna Peterson Bennett Endowed Chair in Prevention Research, professor of human development and psychology, and founding director of the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center in the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State, is the 2016 recipient of the Urie Bronfenbrenner Award for Lifetime Contribution to Developmental Psychology in the Service of Science and Society.

The award, presented by the American Psychological Association (APA), recognizes an individual who, over a career, has contributed to the science of developmental psychology and also worked to apply developmental psychology to society.

Greenberg said the award recognizes his work in the field of prevention science and its impact on the healthy development of children.

“I am honored to receive this lifetime career award. I want to thank my colleagues at the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center and the College of Health and Human Development who continue to support my work on improving the lives of children and families through preventive interventions,” Greenberg said.

In addition to his professional colleagues, Greenberg cites the support of Edna Bennett Pierce as essential to his success.

“My work has also been nurtured and supported by Edna Bennett Pierce, who has the vision to see the impact that prevention science can have for supporting children’s development in a rapidly changing world,” he said.

The APA selects an honoree annually based on contributions through advocacy, direct service, influencing public policy or education, or through any other routes that enable scientific developmental psychology to better the condition of children and families. Greenberg will accept the Bronfenbrenner Award during the APA’s annual convention, Aug. 4-7, in Denver, Colorado.
