We hypothesized that a theoretically-derived elementary school curriculum that incorporates mindful attention training and lessons focused on enhancing optimism, altruism, and well-being would not only accelerate the development of qualities explicitly targeted but would also enhance the development of emotional control, reduce stress and potential precursors of psychopathology, and produce better school outcomes. In this presentation, I will describe the MindUp program and provide the results from our research and discuss future directions.
