Existing knowledge and current gaps will be presented describing the effects of extreme high and low temperatures on acute care utilization (emergency department visits and hospitalizations) among older adults in the United States. The framework of new, proposed research will be presented aimed at filling these gaps with the goal of producing region-, county-, and sometimes city-specific information for local health officials and emergency planning organizations to develop appropriate action plans to ensure the healthiest future for their residents.

About the Speaker

Kyle Aune is an environmental epidemiologist focused on understanding and mitigating the harmful health effects of climate change.
