About the Speaker
Joel Segel is an associate professor of Health Policy and Administration at Penn State and a a member of the Penn State Cancer Institute. His work focuses on identifying and evaluating opportunities for value in the health care system with a particular focus on two areas: cancer prevention and treatment and opioid use disorder. He is currently co-leading an evaluation of the Pennsylvania Coordinated Medication-Assisted Treatment Program for treating opioid use disorder. Dr. Segel has also been a co-investigator for work surrounding the Pennsylvania Rural Health Model, a novel global budget program targeting rural Pennsylvania hospitals. Currently, he has been studying access to cancer care for rural patients as well as potential intended and unintended consequences of the CMS Oncology Care Model. Finally, Dr. Segel has been involved in numerous cost, cost-effectiveness, and program evaluation studies of health care interventions and policies. Dr. Segel received his Ph.D. in Health Services Organization and Policy (health economics) from the University of Michigan.
