In the 2012 Bennett Lecture, Dr. Jeanne Brooks-Gunn discussed policy research as it pertains to the development of young children, particularly those who are living in families who are poor and have parents who have low human capital. She will consider both disparities in school readiness between children with more and fewer human capital and income resources as well as the family- and neighborhood-level contexts that contribute to these disparities. She examined a series of interventions that have been developed to enhance school readiness, with a particular focus on early childhood education and home visiting programs offered in the first four years of life.
