Peter Rivera joined the Center as a post-doctoral trainee in the Prevention and Methodology Training program last year, after completing his Ph.D. in marriage and family therapy from Florida State University. Through his research, Peter hopes to prevent risk-taking behaviors among maltreated adolescents and emerging adults. He believes prevention research has the potential to reduce the burdens associated with being maltreated, which is why he became involved in the field.
Peter has authored three peer-reviewed journal articles and one book chapter. He enjoys working at the PRC because of the opportunities to involve himself in cutting edge research within an interdisciplinary context. In the future, he hopes to continue developing his emerging research agenda as a professor in a research-intensive setting. When Peter is not at the Center, he enjoys spending time with his family, surfing and trying new food.
