Lee Carpenter
Lee acts in a variety of capacities in the Prevention Research Center. She
assists faculty and research associates in developing and submitting grant proposals. This includes identifying possible funding sources; reviewing funding agency guidelines; assisting with proposal development; reviewing proposals for compliance with guidelines; and developing standard “boilerplate” materials for use in proposals. She also works with the College research office in preparing materials and files and submitting proposals.
Editorial/writing duties include assisting in the external dissemination of research results to policy makers and other audiences; consulting with researchers to develop goals, plans, and schedules for the dissemination of research results; writing and editing press releases and related public information materials; developing content for print and electronic sources; editing faculty publications and proposals as requested and appropriate; and other duties as assigned. Also responsible for the development of annual reports, and web site maintenance and updates.
Project management duties include development of progress and annual reports, and IRB human subjects submissions and subsequent modifications; coordination of outreach activities and materials (flyers, brochures, etc., used in community activities); development of other publications; and creation and maintenance of project websites.
In past positions in research centers and institutes at Penn State, Lee has also collaborated on strategic planning activities and strategic plan development; managed both large and small research projects that included outreach and dissemination components; conducted comparative evaluations of comparable research organizations to identify levels and types of services, types of products being disseminated, and other information needed for future center/institute planning; and identified, convened, and coordinated working groups around specific initiatives and/or themes.
She has both participated in and coordinated the development of large-scale research proposals for NSF and NIH centers and training programs, including identifying potential partners and University resources that would strengthen a proposal's funding potential.
Lee reviews NIH, NSF, and other federal, state, and foundation funders' websites, emails, and annual reports for indications for present and future priorities and shares this information with researchers.
